Step 1: Prepare Your Canvas

Before creating a stamp brush in Procreate, you need to prepare a new canvas to draw. Here’s how to start. 

  1. First, open the Procreate app and tap the “+” sign in the top right corner to open the drop-down menu.
  2. Select a square canvas with a dimension of 2048×2048 pixels for your stamp. 
  3. If you prefer a bigger dimension, tap a small “+” sign in the dropdown menu. 
  4. Set the canvas for 3000×3000 pixels or bigger and DPI 300. Then, click “Create.”

Step 2: Draw Your Stamp

This step is where you create the design for your stamp brush. You can draw the stamp with any brush you like. 

For the best result, ensure your design is in black on a white background. Additionally, fill the canvas spaces for a better-resolution design. You can also utilize tools, like “Transform Tool” to align the image more precisely.

Once you finish designing, don’t forget to touch up your design by cleaning rough edges or adding details. 

Step 3: Save the Image

  1. First, go to “Action Tool” (Wrech symbol), then select “Share” and save it as “JPEG.”
  2. Secondly, you can just copy the entire canvas by tapping “Add” in “Action Tool.” Then, select “Copy Canvas.”

  1. Tap the “Brush” icon to open the Brush Library.
  2. In Brush Library, find the “+” icon and tap on it, then name your brush set. 
  3. After naming your brush set, tap another “+” in the top right corner.
  4. You’ll enter the Brush Studio, where you can customize your brush with various settings and features.

Step 5: Import Your Image

  1. In the Brush Studio, go to the “Shape” tab. 
  2. Click “Edit” under Shape Source, then select “Import.”
  3. If you save your design in JPEG, select “Import a Photo.”
  4. If you just copy your design, select “Paste.”
  5. In Procreate, you need a white brush to draw. Therefore, you need to invert the image by tapping on the screen using your two fingers. Then, the image will turn from black on white to white on black. 
  6. Afterwards, press “Done.”

Step 6: Adjust the Stamp Brush Settings

  1. Spacing: go to the “Stroke Path” tab, then adjust the “Spacing” slider. Slide it to the right to make your stamp appear once per tab. 
  2. Jitter: still in the “Stroke Path,” consider adjusting “Jitter” if you want your stamp to appear randomly. 
  3. Taper: in the “Taper” tab, set the “Opacity” to max. Thus, your stamp won’t be transparent due to light pressure.
  4. Apple Pressure: set “Opacity” to none in the “Apple Pressure” tab. 
  5. Properties: in this tab, you can customize your brush sizes based on your preferences. Set “Maximum” to max if you like your stamp in a larger shape. Meanwhile, slide “Minimum” from none to 10% to make a tiny stamp.

Step 7: Save and Test Your Brush

Done with the adjustment? Don’t forget to name your brush! Detail your brush information in the “About this Brush” tab. Then, tap the “Done” button in the upper-right corner. 

Now you can test your new brush on a blank canvas. If the font doesn’t work as intended, you can go back into the brush setting and make further adjustments.
